Creed II – Review

When the first Creed was released, I was pleased with a highly entertaining and intriguing movie to continue the Rocky franchise. The story of Apollo Creed’s son, Adonis Johnson proved to resonate similarly with audiences. Many were hesitant when it was announced that there would be a sequel. The new director, Steven Caple Jr., had a lot to live up to. After Black Panther, Michael B. Jordan returned to his Creed workout routine, preparing for the sequel.

In Rocky 4, we witnessed the exhibition match between Apollo Creed and Ivan Drago, which resulted in the death of Apollo. Years later, Apollo’s son Adonis reigns as the heavy weight champion. When Viktor Drago, the son of Ivan, challenges Adonis to a match, Creed accepts despite Rocky’s hesitance. The plot of this movie is exciting, the script is fantastic throughout the entire film, and the fights had me on the edge of my seat. Perhaps Creed II does not live up to the same glamour and originality as its predecessor (as some critics point out), but the theme of redemption and the flawless acting present a beautiful story that brings you into the emotion until the very end. I thoroughly enjoyed this movie.
