MOUNTAIN CREST DEFEATS BEARS ON THE CURSED TURF!
Their game though scheduled Friday was postponed to Saturday (Due to weather conditions)
Is bear rivers’ new turf cursed? Since Bear River has had their turf done in february they have yet to win any home games on it in both football and soccer. Saturday’s game was a fight. Both teams came in ready to give their all knowing that only one would make it out victorious. The first quarter passed and both teams were unable to score. Only minutes into the second quarter Preston Lofthouse(6) ran the ball diving into the end zone. But the referee makes a call with no touchdown. But what’s football without bad calls? Mustangs were then 1 yard away from the first touchdown of their game Lofthouse(6) got the ball and the Mustang line forced their way through Bear rivers defence which created a small gap for Lofthouse(6) who ran it in for the Touchdown.
Neck and Neck for the whole second quarter the Bear river offence ran the ball for a touchdown which tied the game 7-7 for halftime. Halfway through the 3rd quarter it was 3rd down-Mustangs with 4 yards to go. Lofthouse(6) ran the ball, it looked like he was stopped but he found a hole in bear rivers defence once again and got past the 50 and kept going for a mustang touchdown! The kick was good by Mustang (78)Judson Wells. The score is now 14-7. Bear river pushed and tied it up again. Score 14-14 both teams were fighting for the win.with a little more than 5 minutes of mustangs again in possession. Thrown by lofthouse(6) the ball flew through the sky to Garrett Austin(3).
The 60 yard catch was complete and this brought your mustangs a couple yards away from another MC touchdown. After a few attempts to break the bear rivers defence lofthouse(6) kept the ball and pushed with a herd of mustangs just enough for another Touchdown. The kick is good by wells (78)
Which secured the lead at the end of third quarter 21-14. Bear river was now in possession but the Mustangs fought hard and stopped Bear river again and again the ball was then turned over to the Mustangs who ended with possession as 4th quarter began. A little bit of back and forth play as both bear river and mountain crest battled for yards. The Mustangs were again in possession. Fourth down and there was 8 yards to go mustangs had to make a play in order to get their first down the ball was hiked to qb (Lofthouse 6) who threw a 40+ yard pass to Terrell lee (7)
The offensive linemen worked hard and gave lofthouse plenty of time to throw the ball. The pass was complete and brought our mustangs about 8 yards away from the goal and back to a mustang first down. With a pitch to Dan Bindrup(5) and a hand off to Carson Olsen(8) the Mustangs are two yards away from another touchdown. Carson(8) gets another handoff he runs and a couple of bears bring him down. Carson extended his reach on the way down and the ball hit the endzone just barely securing another Mustang touchdown. The kick is up and good by wells (78).
Bear river put up a good fight but not enough for the Mustang defence. There were a couple of flags on the field as the bear river seemed to be upset and caused mild contention. But the mustangs put up a fight and played together. The clock winded down Bear river with the ball there quarterback giving all he’s got but there 4th down comes and he launches the ball and it was picked terrell lee(7) with the interception managed to get his hands on the ball and took it about 7 yards before being brought down by a sloth of bears. The Mustangs then have possession once again with one minute to go in the game and the Mustangs take a knee. Bear River calls a timeout stopping the clock not sure of what to do with the opponents taking a knee and after that the Mustangs choose to run the ball they gain about 4 yards but there’s a flag on the field. The flag is against the bear river. mustangs gained some yards.but the clock winded down and that was game the final score being 28-14 mustangs taking the victory and the bears to taking yet another defeat.
