Cross Country (State Race)

There were only 16 of us. All the year working for this race, the most important one. This year goes really fast, we started running almost 2 months ago, we have run seven races, and now, everything has finished.

And the day came, at 12:00 we picked up everything and went to the bus. Everyone inside the bus was so excited, but also really nervous, because this race was going to be the last that many people were going to run. It was full of papers with motivational phrases to encourage the runners. After one hour and a half on the bus, we arrived there. There were around 30 teams from all around Utah; St George, Salt lake City, Ogden… etc. That was so impressive for us because in our normal races we are only 5 or 6 teams. Everyone started changing their shoes and started stretching and training.

This was an amazing experience. The possibility to see and cheer some of the people of the team running in a state race is incredible. I was worried too, because I saw all their faces, and they looked really tired.

This course is apparently easy because everything is flat, but the race is almost always on grass, so that makes you run it slowly. At 3:00 the girl’s race started , they had a really good time running and also they did it amazingly. One hour later the boys’ race started, this race was going to be the last race for many of them. They also ran it really well, and with very good times.

Some of us went there to cheer. Everyone was running for one part of the course to another screaming to the runners.

When all of us finished, everything was over, we were no longer going to run all together. We have improved a lot, thanks to teamwork. Some will stop running, others will finish high school and start working or go to university, and the exchange students will return to our countries. It was an amazing season.
