Shayde Kerr: Life Behind the Curtain
Shayde Kerr is a senior this year and an involved student, but most notably in his position as stage manager for musical productions and other events put on by the school.
What does stage crew do?
“We build, produce, and move all of the sets for all of the theater shows that the school does, and just, do everything backstage, really.”
How long have you been a part of stage crew?
“All four years of my high school life; since freshman year.”
What got you into it?
“I was a bored little freshman with nothing better to do, and that’s all it really was. I was like, this is something that could be potentially fun, and so I did it, and I haven’t stopped. And now, I’m the stage manager. It all started off with curiosity, I guess. Join the stage crew, it’s fun.”
What is the best part of being on stage crew?
“Probably just being able to see it all come together, I guess. You know, at the end of the show, having all the sets you’ve been working on for the past month and a half or so, so you know, it’s really cool to just kinda see it all happen.”
The stage crew is currently looking forward to working on the set for a production called Once On This Island, which is similar to a Haitian version of The Little Mermaid.
