Aneeka Lund: Africa The Beautiful
Doing this assignment was exciting for me because I love trying to figure people out. I love being able to read someone just by looking at them, I’m normally pretty good at it too. I can generally guess how they are feeling or what stress they are feeling. I think it’s quite a gift. So when I stumbled upon Aneeka in the halls I was confused.
I couldn’t really see her. It was a super spontaneous idea when I sat down next to her and just started talking. At first it was just the basics like names and where she’s from but the conversation came easy so I asked her a few more questions. The amount of simple complexity she had was astounding.
The first thing that she talked to me about was her passion for music. Aneeka plays three instruments, The flute, guitar, and piano. She has been playing all three since she was a little kid.
Question: So what about playing music have you fallen in love with?
Answer: I guess it’s the stress relief. Knowing that I get to go home and just play is so comforting. I also love the sounds. I am a very active learner. Being able to pay attention to the vibrations and sounds that my instruments make is very enjoyable for me
Her passion for music was unbelievable. She could Talk about it for hours on end.
As our conversation shifted the topic of driving was at bay. I asked her more about it and it was like her eyes lit up!
“Ahh It’s just so fun. I’m in love with driving, it’s so freeing” When she talked about music the passion was calming but when she talked about driving her passion was full of energy and spark.
She told me about some of the cars she’s driven and places she has driven to. It was really cool to hear all of the adventure that was just her driving. The topic of driving brought up a dream.
She wanted to drive for a living. And not just drive a car but drive a race car. “I’ve never seen anything like those girls out there on the track, they have no fear of life going too fast, it’s almost like their speed slows time down. I wanna do that” She said I was so inspired by that vision of diving.
As the driving conversation flew by I was able to relate to Aneeka’s love of animals. Her and her family have a few house pets and she loves them “I guess I’m not a people person I’m an animal person” she says.
Aneeka wanted to be a doctor forever but her love for animals got in the way. “I am so fascinated by the anatomy and physiology of humans but animals are so misunderstood and so when I learned there was a career to do both as a veterinarian I was excited.”
Her passion for animals was different from anything I’d seen before. I could tell that she loved them and it was quite wholesome to witness.
Aneeka has so many dreams and after talking to her for about 45 minutes I was surprised that I was able to learn so much about someone. Talking to Aneeka was one of the most spontaneous, eye opening things I have done. She is very inspiring and loving.
“My name means Africa the beautiful” says Aneeka I could see her name shine through when she spoke about her love for music, driving and animals. Overall I discovered that sometimes people are unsolvable until they speak and that’s when I can find the love within them.
