Winner’s win, Loser’s lose

Winning is “everything,” according to interviewee Jace Mcbride. When asked about what got him into wrestling, and around what time he started, Jace replied, “1st grade, I was young and raw. I was excited like any other kid at trying a new thing.” Little did he know how much this sport would impact the years to come.

He always knew the tradition of Mountain Crest wrestling from a young age. Hearing this from his Dad and other relatives. He also says, “I’m grateful for wrestling and working through the MC system from a young age because it really prepared me for the challenge of high school.”

Eventually, Winter 2019 rolled around, and Jace was wrestling 128 for varsity. “I was very excited and very nervous.” He knew he just had to “work hard and do what the coaches want him to do” in order to fit in on this high level team. His response to what it takes to fit in and thrive on this team was simple, “be a fun person and work hard”.

He worked hard and got a lot of pins on the way to placing in state for his weight. Mountain Crest as a team won the overall 4A state championship in 2020. He was “absolutely thrilled about the trophy and everything else that came because of the early mornings, the cutting weight, and the endless running.”

When Sophomore year rolled around, he could already tell how much better and stronger he was. Now wrestling at 132, he would face some of the best wrestlers in the state. He placed 5th in his weight class, while MC took home second. In this program, “we don’t care about anything else besides first. That’s why we don’t put out the

trophy for display from last year.” Man, what a culture this school has with wrestling. He is now about to start his Junior season of wrestling. He is “excited for the hype, and ready to put Mountain Crest back on top, where we belong.”
