Alexis Rowley: Journey Through Dance

Alexis Rowley: Journey Through Dance

Alexis Rowley is a student here at Mountain Crest Highschool and loves to dance! She dances at R&M dance studios and has been dancing for 8 years since she was 9 years old.

How did you get into dancing and what inspired you to dance?

“As a kid, I always wanted to dance and begged my parents to sign me up for classes. Eventually, they finally found a place to sign me up without being crazy serious about it.”

“It turned out not to be a phase and ended up being something I loved. Honestly, I don’t know what inspired it. It could have been any number of Disney movies or seeing a local ballet. Probably a combination of the two!”

What has been the biggest challenge and how did you overcome it?

“The biggest challenge is the mental game. No number of turns or tricks is as hard as doing it mentally. You are constantly pushing yourself to become better. There is no point where you thing “I made it.”

“You always have to try to become better. For me, it has been important to step back and say, “Look at all the skills I’ve gained in the last year,” or even just take a second to jump around and cheer after a good turn combination.”

What has been your greatest strength as a dancer?

“My biggest strength is probably my work ethic. I’m willing to put in work for it and focus when I need to but I also can relax, have fun, make friends, and goof around with the other dancers.”

What goals do you have for the future?

I hope to continue to grow as a dancer and have fun with it. Winning is fun and is obviously the goal at every competition, but the feeling of dancing is indescribable. I don’t know if I will continue to dance after high school, but I hope to continue it somehow.”
