Brynne Austin the Balloon Artist

Balloon bending is the art of creating animals or objects from balloons through a process of twisting and manipulating the balloon to form certain sculptures. The people creating these objects can be called multiple different things such as Twisters, Balloon Benders, and Balloon Artists. Balloon Artists can perform on different occasions like at restaurants, fairs, birthday parties, and public or private events. Fun fact about balloon artists is that they can actually make a profit from their work.

Brynne Austin is a twelfth grader at Mountain Crest High School. She is the design editor for the yearbook and is trying out for the girls basketball team this year. “I’m super excited but really nervous for basketball” she says.

There wasn’t a specific reason that Brynne started twisting balloons; it was just something she wanted to do for fun. Brynne said “me and my friend started balloon bending in ninth grade.” Brynne had to move from Arizona to Utah leaving her friend and her balloon twisting hobby behind for the time being.

When Brynne found out she was incharge of a booth at a Valentine’s Day festival she was ecstatic and volunteered to help with making balloon sculptures. After this festival, balloon making became something that Brynne really enjoyed. Brynne can now make a sword, a flower, a dog, a monkey and a turtle. With lots more to learn Brynne tries to practice and learn to make new creations every day.

Brynne’s goal for the future is to make a balloon dress because she saw it on tik tok and thinks it’s cool she says “making a dress would be really cool unless it popped, that would be awkward.” Brynne is a very kind person and is always looking to help others succeed.
